Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)
Genre: Comedy/Noir
Time: 1h 44mins
Director: Robert Zemeckis
Quick Summary: A toon-hating detective is a cartoon rabbit's only hope to prove his innocence when he is accused of murder.
Anyone who hates this film hates cartoons and I will fight you.
For a starting point, Bob Haskins (Edddie) is brilliant, considering he was talking to nobody for most of this. His reactions and movements are fluid and perfect, almost like someone was there. He's hard, shut off and most of all detests cartoons, which is a hilarious running gag in this and is used for a really well-written character arc.
Rodger The Rabbit is the other standout in this. Absolutely loveable, you really can't hate him. His design is brilliant and equally as silly as he is. He really gives me the most joy in this film as he is just so fun to watch as he hectically runs around causing havoc while being blissfully unaware, or slinging comebacks to the grumpy Eddie to cheer him up.
The animation in this. Stunning. Brilliant. I adore all the designs and personalities. Each and every single one stands out in their own unique way. Every single one was a hilarious set-up for a joke, spouting hilarious jokes, or outrageously hilarious through slapstick humour. Honestly, I think anyone could find something funny about this film. It is comedy gold.
The story is both a spoof of noir and a wonderfully well-written comedy that actually has a really good plot to it. It keeps you interested right to the very end through being an actual really compelling mystery that keeps you constantly hooked and guessing. Absolutely timeless and I think many, many people will appreciate this for years.
I urge you to go watch this as soon as possible because it is such an amazing film that needs much more application. Not only is it an amazing product of incredible animation combined with real-life acting, but it is a really great film.
Honestly, this is so unique and imaginative. It's one of a kind. The amount of effort that was put into this really pays off as well. Each shot is brilliant. It has everything you could want. Hilarious dialogue, romance, drama, car chases, tension, old-school villain shenanigans, and amazing artwork.
I adore this film, and you better too.
10/10
"Eddie Valiant: Anybody know you're here?
Roger Rabbit: Nobody. Not a soul, except, uh...
Eddie Valiant: Who?
Roger Rabbit: Well, you see, I didn't know where your office was. So I asked the newsboy. He didn't know. So I asked the fireman, the green grocerer, the butcher, the baker, they didn't know! But the liquor store guy... he knew.
Eddie Valiant: In other words, the whole damn town knows."
"Eddie Valiant: Seriously, what do you see in that guy?
Jessica Rabbit: He makes me laugh."
"Benny the Cab: Pull the lever!
Eddie Valiant: Which one?
Roger Rabbit: Which one?
Benny the Cab: "Which one?"
[a sign pops up on the dashboard reading "This one, stupid!"]"
