Saw VI (2009)
Genre: Horror/ Thriller
Time: 1h 30mins
Director: Kevin Greutert
Quick Summary: Agent Strahm is dead, and FBI agent Erickson draws nearer to Hoffman. Meanwhile, a pair of insurance executives find themselves in another game set by Jigsaw.
This is not a great film I will say but it certainly is a step up from the previous for me.
The dialogue seems to be getting weaker and more dull. It feels sloppy and a lot of it is just rambling or just random at times. Though the story is much more interesting, and the twists in this were pretty fun, my problem with this one is the amount of times it flashbacks to previous films.
I did like the setup for this one. A man told the man, John Krama they wouldn't fund him so he could get more treatment for his cancer because of a simple maths equation. This guy believes deciding if people should live or die is all down to maths. My man Jigsaw isn't having that and forces this guy through multiple traps where he has to choose if people he knows dearly should live or die right in front of him. Not so easy is it?
Trap time. So again these were pretty interesting, which essentially focused on this guy choosing who lives or dies. One I really liked was basically this merry-go-round filled with his co-workers/Interns and they're selected at random. The guy has to either crush his hand or let a shotgun go off, then kill them. The twist is that he is only allowed to save two people out of the eight. They definitely feel more inventive and elaborate this time.
Something I did like about this one is Jill, Jigsaw's wife plays a huge role in this, and everything to do with her is explained which I really liked. Her part of the story is explained so well. Shame we didn't get much of her after this.
I also did like the tension around the FBI beginning to figure out that Hoffman is actually Jigsaw's accomplice and the pure frantic
This was a nice addition, and I think I prefer this in place of the previous one. It's not great, but if you love the Saw series you'll like this one.
8/10
