The Punisher (2004)

Genre: Action/Thriller

Time: 2h 20mins

Director: Jonathan Hensleigh

Quick Summary: An undercover FBI agent becomes a vigilante and sets out to unleash his wrath upon the corrupt businessman who slaughtered his entire family at a reunion.

I might start taking some notes on how to act out some revenge.

Pure action, all the way through. Although that isn't entirely bad, it is honestly kind of entertaining. What made this so good is the protagonist, played by Thomas James, who performed brilliantly as the detached, effortless action hero who is too cool for romantic interests, with hardcore one-liners.

Honestly, I really liked that there was no romance. It did not need this and it would have been distasteful to events in the beginning of the film.

I'll admit, I had no care for the side characters. They were there for a lot of comedic relief and this did not need it at all. As well the song that is placed in the middle of the film really threw me out of the loop. To add to this, the film goes on for way too long as a lot of scenes are added with these guys, really they shouldn't have bothered.

Action-wise, it's pretty good. There are lots of explosions, shootouts, and really intense fights. It is a little over the top on the violence but it never becomes too ridiculous, though it is pretty brutal at times. If you're looking for something that hits the nail on the head for lots of violence, and a good dramatic storyline, then this is for you.

5/10

  1. Still one my my favourite movies, mostly because it shared a lot of scenes with the PS2 game, as well as other missions that included the side characters very briefly.

This was when Marvel wasn't afraid to be a bit gruesome, it was also John Travolta's time to shine as a rather memorable antagonist.
