Theater Camp (2023)

Genre: Comedy

Time: 1h 33mins

Director: Molly Gordon, Nick Lieberman

Quick Summary: The eccentric staff of a rundown theatre camp in upstate New York must band together with the beloved founder's bro-y son to keep the camp afloat.

Honestly, this is a very funny mockumentary (a fake documentary usually to make fun) and I had a lot of fun watching this.

The problem I had with this though, it is kind of forgettable. I don't remember much of what actually happened in this. As well, so much happens throughout this, I found myself forgetting about characters that were introduced at the start. The plot didn't actually start going anywhere until the final act either, so a lot of the film was just watching these people go about life.

It's a simple movie that sets out to give you a fun experience, which it does really well. I laughed a lot at things that I expect not a lot of people would as the humour is very off-beat and out there. The thrives on how weird these adults and kids are because they are truly and absolutely weird people. It is funny though, because I do and expect most people to know people exactly like these people.

I did like the ending as it was incredibly sweet and touching when it finally got there. It was a really nice conclusion for such a simple film, I feel like it didn't need this big complicated finale. If you want something to casually watch, I recommend this. It's fun, though targeted for a niche audience, and an easy watch.

6/10

"Amos Klobuchar: [Upon hearing that a child's musical audition piece will be "I Had a Dream" from "Les Miserables."] That's a good song choice. I totally believe her as a French prostitute.

Rebecca-Diane: Amos!

Amos Klobuchar: Sorry. Sex worker."
