Saw VII (2010)
Genre: Horror/ Thriller
Time: 1h 30mins
Director: Kevin Greutert
Quick Summary: As a deadly battle rages over Jigsaw's brutal legacy, a group of Jigsaw survivors gathers to seek the support of self-help guru and fellow survivor Bobby Dagen, a man whose own dark secrets unleash a new wave of terror.
Man lies about surviving a Jigsaw trap, gets famous and makes money from his story, then finds himself actually in a Jigsaw game as Karama. I'm eating this right up. I really like this set-up as this guy fully deserved what was coming for him and honestly, I had no sympathy for him or anyone involved with his game until right at the end.
The Traps are kind of similar to the previous one where the guy has to hurt himself in order to save the trapped, though honestly, it was really disappointing to watch as everyone just messes up completely, or maybe they were designed for him to mess up. As really this whole game is Jigsaw's way of getting back at him for lying about a horrible traumatic event, by putting him through a horrible traumatic event. The problem is, the guy is just a spineless useless dick who is able to walk away from pretty much most of these traps unharmed. At least the traps looked cool.
One thing I will mention about this is that it was made for 3D, so parts of bodies, blood and other bits are flung at the screen that honestly look quite silly now. But I actually quite enjoyed it as it brought a slightly funny element to the film. In the opening scene, you see a trap unfold but it has zero connection to anything, this bugged me a lot.
Jill has lost her cool attitude and is completely reduced to a scream queen, hiding behind cabinets and corners, which was a massive shame as I loved her in the previous one. Most of this film ends up focusing on Hoffman, who honestly I don't really care about. Look man I'm sorry your scheme of becoming the new Jigsaw is going in the bin due to Jill, but you're boring.
The mystery and suspense are completely missing from this one and it's just a bit of a letdown. Though, I did like the return of a previous character as one of the twists and honestly it actually made a lot of sense thinking about it. It's not the biggest twist, but it gave this film something.
This is okay, I wouldn't skip it, but due to Hoffman, it gets boring at times.
7/10
"Hello, Evan. I want to play a game. The situation you find yourself in is of your own doing. You, your girlfriend, and your friends are all racists."
