Terrifier (2016)
Genre: Horror/ Crime
Time: 1h 26mins
Director: Damien Leone
Quick Summary: On Halloween night, Tara Heyes finds herself as the obsession of a sadistic murderer known as Art the Clown.
He's just a silly goofy guy.
Somebody should check on the director because the gore in this is incredible. Like scary incredible. Sure the blood might be over the top, but that really just adds to the effect. It was actually horrifying watching this clown rip apart people and like rummage through their bodies. Though at the same time, everything was like over the top violent, like yeah I'm a fan of that, but not everyone is. So keep that in mind.
Moving on to the clown himself. I really enjoyed him and he really made the film worthwhile, as even if he is terrifying he's also very very silly and funny through how he reacts to things. I assume he's mute as he has no dialogue at all. Which is actually really impressive. I loved the moments he just acted out some silly shenanigan or over-the-top expression, and every single time it was funny.
Now, the people who actually spoke. They were awful. I think this was actually a mix of bad acting and a bad script. I mean, I didn't care too much because I was only there for the clown and the gore. Regardless, anytime anyone spoke it came across as hilarious. It honestly reminded me of porn acting it was that bad. Also, the sheer amount of stupid decisions that were made in this is insane. Like logically, the stuff that happens in this is preventable and it's down to stupid thinking they end up making things worse.
Another issue I had with this is that for a film that was so short, the pacing was wildly quick. It kept going from one thing to the next way too fast and I don't think I had any time to process what happened before. As well, the lighting was incredibly harsh, almost like everyone had a spotlight on them at all times. It was kind of distracting for me as I watched the main actress squint towards the screen in a scene that was supposed to be in the dark.
If you're fans of horror you'll probably love this like I did. Though sadly I found some of the flaws difficult to look past. The clown was the highlight and I could just watch him murder someone anytime.
