Finding Nemo (2003)

Genre: Comedy/ Adventure

Time: 1h 40mins

Director: Andrew Stanton

Quick Summary: After his son is captured in the Great Barrier Reef and taken to Sydney, a timid clownfish sets out on a journey to bring him home.

Right away I can say this is a classic for Pixar. It is so pretty to watch, and being someone who isn't a big fan of the ocean that's a big deal. Honestly, it's so breathtaking and mesmerising to watch these fish flick about through the colourful world that has been created. The attention to detail in every frame is awe-inspiring as there is so much to look at every single second, from colour coral reefs to areas teeming with all sorts of fish all doing various things.

The most impressive thing to me in this is the characters. Each and every one is unique and animated so well. The facial expressions, body language, and honestly how they move through the ocean, make them feel real. I actually forgot I was watching an animated fish film.

Most importantly, the themes in this are wonderful. Beautifully exploring themes of love, friendship, and the importance of overcoming one's fears, especially of parents towards their children. It shows how much parents can love their children and would do anything for their safety. As well it's sort of a lesson for parents too, that kids will need their own freedom to make mistakes as they grow up.

I'm not too sure about the humour in this, sure it's clever and really subtle in some places, but it wasn't as hilarious as some other Pixar films. I think Dory was funny most of the time with a silly sunshine attitude to everything, but everything else seemed to either fall into the slapstick or jokes about the sea/fish which I didn't always understand.

Honestly, this is another really fun and simple adventure from Pixar, and a step up in their animation too. I don't know how you can hate this, it's so sweet too.

8/10
