This is actually hilarious and incredibly refreshing to watch.
The plot it's a pretty simple yet effective plot that manages to create a genuine sense of drama and excitement throughout the whole film. The story revolves around the characters of Buzz and Woody, and their conflict is taken to a much deeper level than one would expect from a children's movie. What really sets this film apart is the degree of character development it offers. They're more than just one-dimensional cartoons, they are fully fleshed out down to mannerisms and slight reactions.
The conflict between Buzz and Woody is a perfect example of this. It's not just a simple rivalry between two toys; it's a complex struggle that delves into issues of identity, purpose, and self-discovery. When Buzz discovers the truth about his identity as a toy, his initial confusion and denial give way to a very real sense of turmoil and despair. This makes the story more emotional and adds depth to the characters. I forget this is actually a film for kids because honestly, it feels like it was made more relatable to adults.
I can't say this enough but this is hilarious. Whoever wrote the script is a genius. I don't think kids will appreciate the humour as much as adults would, but I think this film is for both. A perfect mix that everyone can enjoy. Even down to the body language, this film is so funny. Absolute perfection.
Although I will say, I do think the animation is a little dated as it looks a bit off. Back when this was first released, this was pretty good in comparison. It may not look the nicest, but honestly, I forget I am watching a computer-animated film almost instantly. This makes up for that in the subtle things like reactions such as eye rolls or slouching.
I couldn't ask for a more fun film to watch. It's a short watch too for those of you who have short attention spans. This is an absolute classic and I will fight anyone who hates this.
