Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure (1989)
Genre: Sci-Fi/Comedy
Time: 1h 30mins
Director: Stephen Herek
Quick Summary: Two rock-'n-rolling teens, on the verge of failing their class, set out on a quest to make the ultimate school history report after being presented with a time machine.
I'll be honest, I don't find much of this film funny but at least I got some enjoyment out of it.
Yes, I can see how this is funny to a lot of people, but to me, it's just stupid and very dated. I enjoyed the first half hour more when the dynamic duo's catchphrases and mannerisms were fresh but lost interest the longer it went on with the constant repetition of the same catchphrases were really shoved in at any moment possible, which honestly got really irritating to me. As well them both being airheads, was funny for so long.
I think the story is actually really fun, bringing people from the past to help with a history assignment and watching them interact with the then-modern world. There were a lot of silly moments that admittedly were enjoyable, such as Joan of Arc taking charge of a fitness class and Napolean acting like a small child in almost every scene. I do wish we actually got to see them interact more with the world, with the main leads as I can imagine it would have made for some funnier dialogue moments.
The soundtrack was pretty nice, really adds to the fun of this film with a lot of 80's rock. A lot of this is just the main two running through time doing random shenanigans until the end, which honestly was pretty good. It does a good job in closing every loose end up nicely, in that sort of lighthearted "everything worked out perfectly" way. For me, where this falls flat is mainly that I didn't enjoy the humour too much, or the protagonists really and saw it rather dumb more than anything.
If airheads and repetitive jokes are your thing, then probably give this a go.
4/10

Ted: OK wait. If you guys are really us, what number are we thinking of?
Bill, Ted: 69, dudes.
Bill, Ted: Whoa.
