Genre: Horror/ Slasher
Time: 2 hours
Directors: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett
Quick Summary: 25 years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, Calif., a new killer dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town's deadly past.
I don't hate this, but I don't love it either. Sure it was a little fun, and the new cast was refreshing but it doesn't quite live up to the others.
It was nice to still see the original cast, they still are pretty strong but I'm glad the focus wasn't entirely on them this time. First I found it pretty interesting as they actually kept her alive, instead of dying like the rest of the previous film's first kills, and used her for the main cast which was pretty fun. Though she isn't part of any of the action scenes sadly.
There are a lot of nods and easter eggs in the first film which was nice to see, but a lot of the scenes just reminded me of the first film, like a lot of these films do, and honestly, it's getting pretty tiring now to see it over and over and again. We get it, only the first one is good.
I felt like it was absolutely ridiculous how they tied this new cast of characters to the "Legacy" ones. Especially the main lead and then how they behave because of it. It was honestly pretty cringe to me. I also felt like Ghostface's motive was half clever, and half not. I was genuinely surprised by some moments of the reveal, but the rest of it was uninteresting.
The addition of the new generation's Randy was pretty fun too, and I really enjoyed their character. It was pleasant to see a lot of references to newer horror films and cliches, in a new refreshing meta way. There was one kill which I won't say due to spoilers which emotionally destroyed me and I found it very sad to watch.
There isn't much to say about this one except it feels like a modernised Scream film for "Gen Z" (which I am also part of). This isn't a bad thing, it's just a shame there isn't much new to this. It keeps the self-awareness, the humour isn't as prominent anymore though. Admittedly, I don't remember too much from the first half of this, as it seems all the interesting stuff happened in the third act.
5/10
"Sidney Prescott: I put a tracker on her car.
Gale Riley: You did what?
Sidney Prescott: Seems like something Gale Weathers would do.
Gale Riley: I'll take that as a compliment."
"Ghostface: Maybe so, but you forgot the first rule of surviving a 'Stab' movie, never answer the...
Sidney Prescott: [Cuts Ghostface off] I'm bored.
Ghostface: Wait!"
"Because nobody takes the true fans seriously, not really. They just laugh at us, and why? Because we love something? We're just a fucking joke to them! How can fandom be toxic? It's about love! You don't fucking understand, these movies are important to people."
