Bill & Ted Face the Music (2020)
Genre: Sci-Fi/Adventure
Time: 1h 33mins
Director: Dean Parisot
Quick Summary: Once told they'd save the universe during a time-traveling adventure, two would-be rockers from San Dimas, California find themselves as middle-aged dads still trying to crank out a hit song and fulfill their destiny.
Oh sure, rehash the same storyline for the third time, I had no problems with it the first two times.
This one was difficult to watch, as the pair are really just bumbling around for the whole film and don't actually achieve anything themselves. It's more their daughters, who admittedly had more charm even though they had zero personality, that ends up saving the day. Maybe it was just me, but seeing 50-year-old men act like stoner airheads was more cringe than funny. I feel sorry for their wives who should have really divorced them years ago.
Even though this is the same length as the other two, it felt so much longer. It really did drag. Honestly, to set you up with how bad this is, it starts off by going, "Hey, remember the first two films?" and proceeds to do a strange montage to recap them. The plot is absolute rubbish, even worse than what we already had somehow. They're basically running around trying to find a song they wrote in the future to save the world and surprise surprise, it's at the very end after going through a ridiculous amount of shenanigans that weren't even funny.
Don't even get me started on the robot character on this. Infuriating. Who said self-loathing is funny now? It's not, it's more cringe-inducing more than anything. Honestly, I'm pretty sure I groaned any time he spoke as it was just some form of awkward, pathetic, whiney line.
Maybe, just maybe if you do like the first two, you'll find some enjoyment out of this one. Probably not though. A lot of people would have probably watched this for nostalgia, or like me, I watched the first two so I might as well watch this one. Honestly, I don't even remember the music being good in this one, and this is a film series about music?
