Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1989)

Genre: Horror/ Slasher

Time: 1h 36mins

Director: Dominique Othenin-Girard

Quick Summary: A psychiatrist and a sheriff work together to stop the psychopath Michael Myers from killing his niece suffering from psychological trauma.

So Micheal just floats down the river as an escape? Alright, pretty funny to watch him casually floating away though. The performances are pretty dead on. Danielle Harris is even better than she was in the last film and I just loved every single scene was in. Her chase scenes are so good, there's one scene in particular when she's trying to escape Micheal through a vent and has to climb upwards while he's stabbing through it. Loomis is just purely nuts in this and I'm living for it. At some point, he just starts beating Micheal with some wood. Go girl, beat his ass.

It's a shame Micheal isn't that scary in this one. I mean sure, when he's chasing Jaimie he's a bit scary, but otherwise, he just stands there for most of the film. Though, at one point he does finally kill someone who honestly, I felt like they really deserved it. They were just an ass of a character. Thinking about it, a lot of the teenagers in this were very annoying and I was glad Micheal killed them (eventually).

The other problem I had with this film was that it was so slow. I know I've complained about the others where nothing happens, but really nothing happens in this one. It wasn't even good at using it to build suspense. Then in an early scene, there these two cops and every time they talk there's this almost clown music that plays that I assume is being used to make them funny? I don't understand why though as they were just saying they checked out a house and there was nothing to see.

This feels like a bit of a letdown to me as there was a lot of potential to the storyline in this, with Jaimie having a telepathic link to Micheal and the twist ending of the previous one could have made for some really interesting things.

Honestly, this is really where these films start to lose the "Halloween" touch and start to become cash grabs. It doesn't really have a good plot and it feels like it repeats the same beats as previous ones without adding anything new. Watch this if you liked the previous one, you probably won't be too interested in it.
