I don't think I've ever heard Ryan Gosling scream so much
I'll be honest, I preferred Ryan over Russell Crowe. Sure, Russell had his funny moments and had really good chemistry with Ryan but honestly, I forgot he was there half the time. I'm not sure if I just didn't like his acting, or the type of character he was given, he just didn't hit it off with me. I think the moments I did enjoy with him were only because of Ryan I'll be honest.
Ryan Gosling was amazing in this, and I think for the majority of this he was just screaming but man it was hilarious to watch him essentially flail around and stumble his way onto clue to solve the crime. He had a much better sense of comedic timing and how he visually reacted to things was great.
This was fun to watch, there is a lot of funny dialogue thrown around and Ryan being the poor soul being used for slapstick was honestly pretty funny too. Whatever situation he was in he just made it great. It's so visually fun as well! It really captured the '70s look pretty well, even down to the background scenery and especially the interior of the houses.
Where this goes wrong is I think the story can be a little confusing with how it reveals its plot twists. Multiple plot lines are thrown in at once and it's one big chaos scramble at one point to connect them all. Plus, They're not that surprising either sadly. As well, something that actually really annoyed me is just how unsatisfying the ending is. It's a kind of happy ending, but it's not a great ending. I remember sitting there being like, oh, that's it.
The whole thing feels like a wild Goose chase at some points where you can see what is going to happen, but you still watch it anyway just for the fun of it and Ryan Gosling.
This is fun and it's an easy watch, I can't complain about that. I don't personally like Russell Crowe but that doesn't mean you won't. If want to just laugh the whole way through something this is definitely the film for you.
7/10
"So you're telling me you made a porno where the point is the plot?"
"Holly March: Dad, there's like whores here and stuff.
Holland March: Sweetheart, how many times have I told you? Don't say "and stuff". Just say "dad, there are whores here".
Holly March: Well, there's like a ton."
I'm just Ken and stuff
