Final Destination 2 (2003)

Genre: Horror/ Sci-Fi

Time: 1h 30mins

Director: David R. Ellis

Quick Summary: Death is stalking Kimberly Corman and multiple survivors of a deadly highway accident.

Death really said sike to that one guy who won the lottery.

Okay, people are less stupid in this one. I mean it too, the stuff that happens to them genuinely seems like accidents that could reasonably happen, and you know what? They actually show the set up which is a big bonus.

I actually liked the characters more this time around, shame nobody really lasts that long in this one. This makes the mistake of giving more attention to the character that is going to die next, unlike the previous where we learnt about them all together, this one singles each one out right before they are killed. It's like they're saying hey you don't need to bother caring about this one. Though saying that, I did actually like the lead character in this one as she felt useful and was actually trying to figure out what was going on.

The story is pretty much the same, characters escape death and then death chases them down. It has the same basic formula as the previous one, which isn't bad I'll admit. It did work in the first one. Really, what this film is, is a better version of the first one. It's done the complete opposite of most sequels and been better than the original. Maybe they learnt their lesson with what was bad and improved it. Bonus points there.

Pretty much way better first one, this one's more blood and a lot more gore, and it is just better everything. One thing that was definitely missing from the first one was over-the-top deaths, which this one shoves in your face during the opening.

Sadly this does have some silly plot holes, like a character coming back from the previous film and so happens to survive all the way until a crucial moment, or death allowing someone to kill themselves to "break" the chain to gain a new life.

This is original like the first, I can't be too mad they made a second one. As well, you don't really need to watch the first one either to understand what is going on. This can be watched without watching the previous one, so if the first one sounded a bit iffy, maybe give this one a go instead.

7/10
