Well, he said he didn't do it.
This is comedy gold. Absolutely hilarious. Old school humour, but not dated a single day. What makes this so funny is how everything is delivered, sure the script isn't great but the delivery of this script is perfect. It knows how to play its cards right and keeps everything so entertaining. Something I actually found really interesting about this is that this film actually has three endings, and you can either choose to see all three together or one at random.
Never have I seen a murder mystery so hectic and fast-paced. There's one scene in which one of the characters is literally running from room to room to explain what happened, and everyone just follows him around. Honestly, it's so funny to watch. People talk incredibly fast full of witty comments, and bounce between conversations. It's like watching ping-pong at times. It's ever so silly but it's so fun to watch.
The casting was just ingenious. Eileen Brennan was just flawless, giving Mrs Peacock a much-needed bit of edge. Madeline Kahn was just hilarious, especially with her line "Husbands should be like Kleenex, soft, strong and disposable". Christopher Lloyd seemed restrained, but his dry humour made Professor Plum an unforgettable character. Michael McKean was a bit whiny, but I don't care, it's called acting, plus Mr Green is supposed to be timid. Martin Mull has great comedic timing and brought a bit of stupidity to his role of Colonel Mustard. Tim Cury stole every scene he was in especially when he ran around reenacting the whole film in 15 minutes, and he looked, as always, as though he was having the time of his life. The cast is a very big mix of people but it works so well, not a single character was forgettable.
It's actually really hard to describe the humour in this as there are a lot of things to it. The script is full of dry humour, but also witty comments, as well as some dirty jokes. There are a lot of slapstick moments such as people getting slapped, pushed over or even dropped. But then there are also a lot of laughs from the reactions of characters in the background or their use of body language. Honestly to me, this is the perfect mix of humour types and I don't know how someone couldn't find this funny.
This is a perfect comedy and I urge you to watch this as soon as you can as the time will just fly by when you watch this. It's pure entertainment.
10/10
"Mr. Green: So it was you. I was going to expose you.
Wadsworth: I know. So I choose to expose myself.
Colonel Mustard: Please, there are ladies present!"
"Wadsworth: Three murders?
Mr. Green: Six altogether.
Wadsworth: This is getting serious."
"[Wadsworth has just greeted Mr. Green at the door]
Wadsworth: [to the dogs] Sit!
[Mr. Green quickly and nervously sits down on a bench]
Wadsworth: No, not you, sir."
"Mr. Green: Who would wanna kill the cook?
Miss Scarlet: Dinner wasn't that bad."
I've said it three times before and i'll say it again, communism was just a red herring!!
ReplyDeleteWait, as in the Board Game? Well damn, I'll have to find this somewhere, didn't even know there was a movie.
