I knew as soon as I heard Radiohead in the opening of this film I was in for emotional destruction
You think you understand this film and where it's going, and then you are completely blown away. You're guessing constantly what's happening. You get completely lost in this. It's one giant puzzle that you are trying to put together and the very last piece will appear during the finale. It is honestly very well done and almost made me cry.
This is a wonderful and delicate film about the human mind and our perception of reality. Even when we think it is our reality, do we ever actually know or can we? It takes this concept and fully runs with it to make this beautiful and heartbreaking film.
One of the things I love about this is that you really do feel for the main guy. At the start, he is an absolute prick and I mean it. He thinks he's super cool and a ladies' man. When a certain turn of events happens you can't help but feel sorry for him.
I don't think it's something to casually watch. it's not a film you can pop on to chill out to or have on just in the background, you need to be concentrating, or you won't have a clue what's going on, even if it has your full attention. You have to pay attention to everything or even watch it a few times to absorb everything if in honest
Even on a second watch, I think I appreciated this film so much more knowing everything and seeing all the little bits that then make sense. It's a mystery, an adventure, and a romantic comedy, but it's mostly just a good story. And it has a lot of philosophical undertones to it that really make you think about life too.
Tom Cruise does a very good job in this admittedly. It's probably his best performance from what I've seen though I haven't seen all of his movies, or even a majority of them. But his character is so complex and well-written, that his acting was an added bonus.
Go watch this as soon as you can. Every single song in this is a banger too
9/10
"Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around."
" I'll tell you in another life, when we are both cats."
"But I just think good things will happen, if you are a good person with a good attitude, don't you think?"
