Catwoman (2004)

Genre: Action/ Thriller

Time: 1h 44mins

Director: Pitof

Quick Summary: A shy woman, endowed with the speed, reflexes, and senses of a cat, walks a thin line between criminal and hero, even as a detective doggedly pursues her, fascinated by both of her personas.

Somehow, I managed to not be sick from watching this.

This has some of the most absolutely nauseating camerawork I have ever seen. Everything has these quick snappy cuts that jump back and forward to multiple characters, throwing in some wobbly camera shakes. It's like someone recording a school fight on their phone. Also, the special effects were a bit strange, they poorly mixed the CG over the person's body. It looks like it came out of a game.

I wasn't overly keen on the script as mostly it made me cringe. Which then made a lot of scenes awkward to watch, as they tried to make it overly sexual or "cool". Hayley Berry was also a bit too boring for my taste, so when they transformed her into Catwoman it felt a little off. Everything feels a little disjointed too, since it tries to fit in a romance, origin story, and fully over-the-top action scenes. Even one scene, where they're playing basketball is a massive thing full of wild stunts, choppy headache-inducing cuts, and rock music.

I did not like the romance plot in this as I found the guy just straight-up horrible and uninteresting. It completely lacks any passion or chemistry, even when she isn't Catwoman. Who were they trying to fool?

Though it wasn't great, I actually liked Catwoman's costume in this as it did give the "Sex-Appeal" and flirtyness she is supposed to give. She looked great throughout this, jumping around and behaving like a cat, which admittedly was really funny to me. But then, she seems to not be totally fazed by this. After five minutes of her questioning, she just accepts she can do all these things. No biggie I guess?

Most of my enjoyment from this was actually laughing at how bad this is. The setup for this was pretty interesting as they try to flesh out the lore behind it, but sadly everything else to do with this just nulls it. The plot is honestly simple when you think about it and everyone's characters are all really one-dimensional. I'd give this ago if you want a laugh.

3/10

"Catwoman: White Russian, no ice, no vodka... hold the Kahlua."

"Laurel Hedare: I'm a woman, I'm used to doing things I don't want to do."

"Amateurs! You boys thought you could come in here and steal all these beautiful things? What a purrrfect idea!"
