Maybe I enjoyed this because it's actually a good movie.
Said nobody ever.
I'll be honest a lot of my enjoyment from this was laughing at how bad and cringe this was.
You guys can fight me on this but Margot Robbie was actually good, she kept my attention throughout this, even if she made my skin crawl with the stuff she was saying. Which really goes down to the awful script they were given. Who wrote this? 12 year-olds who thought they were tough? I laughed more at what they were saying causally than when they were actually saying jokes.
Don't we love Will Smith Playing Will Smith. Though, admittedly I did like that because everything he was saying and doing just contrasted with everyone else which to me, was hilarious. I understand he's meant to be an emotionless guy, but I thought the added moments with his daughter were pretty sweet.
Moving on to the biggest issue here. Who in their right mind would consider Jared Leto as the Joker? I'm glad he was barely in it! Really he had no purpose apart from being in Harely's backstory. They could have given the screen time to El Diablo who really, was actually incredibly interesting. I wish we learnt more about him, or even the empress fully. I mean we're introduced to a character halfway through, purely to give information on the plot, and then they just hang around the group with nothing to do, which is a shame as they seemed pretty interesting too.
Don't even get me started on the MULTIPLE montages with the most out-of-place songs you could have thought of. It's like they generated a playlist with the most well-known songs and ran with it. The film starts, with three songs that are basically thrown at you as introductions to some of the characters. Almost like when people would make those fan edits of characters with "theme songs". There is this one scene where everyone is getting dressed in their "Iconic" outfits and picking up their weapons, it plays out like a montage, except every shot is completely static and they're all just standing there looking at their weapons in their hands to without me by Eminem. Obviously during the part of "Guess whose back." How cool.
For such an interesting concept of a villain, they really fumbled it. They completely cover her in CGI which makes her look gross and unsettling, not really something I was looking for in this film, and she is just straight-up boring. At the start, my interest peaked with ancient voodoo siblings wreaking havoc, and then after that, they just stood there. It could have been brilliant to see more of the relationship between the villain and the person on the "Good" side, but sadly we only got the surface level.
I'm not mad that I watched this, as I laughed at this so much. It's full of silly sound effects such as literal bonking during the end fight scene, cringe dialogue that I'm sure 12-year-olds could write better, and the most out-of-touch Joker I have seen. Do you want something to laugh at? Watch this.
3/10
"Harley Quinn: Huh? What was that? I should kill everyone and escape?
Harley Quinn: Sorry. The voices."
"They became the king and queen of Gotham City. And God help anyone who disrespected the queen."
"Deadshot: [toasting] Here's to honor... among thieves.
Katana: I'm not a thief.
Deadshot: Oh. She's not a thief.
[they clink their glasses]
Captain Boomerang: I actually prefer to think of myself as an asset relocation specialist"
"The Joker: Oh, that she is. The fire in my loins. The itch in my crotch."
‘Jared Letos joker seems like he’d make thirst traps on TikTok’ - me about 20 minutes ago
ReplyDeleteThe Joker played out more gangster than Joker, the animated movie 'Batman: Assault on Arkham' was a superior movie in every way. DC really are great when it comes to animation, but live action? It uh... leaves a lot to be desired... like, something better to watch.
ReplyDeleteThe only scene I think I really enjoyed was Dead Shot holding the line, the worst was hearing the Joker laugh.
