The Circus (1928)

Genre: Comedy/ Romance

Time: 1h 10mins

Director: Charlie Chaplin

Quick Summary: A Tramp finds work and the girl of his dreams at a circus.

I went in laughing, came out with a broken heart

Honestly, I did not expect this to be so funny. It is pure slapstick comedy and I loved every moment of it. There are moments like when the tramp is chased by a policeman, he runs into the mirror maze and it's a battle of trying to get him and find a way out at the same time. Throughout this, he gets into so many hilarious shenanigans. Though it isn't always slapstick, there are a good handful of moments where the humour is done through reactions or lines of speech. This guy is naturally funny.

This has a pretty lighthearted tone, even with some of the more sad moments such as the ending which really broke my heart. The romance in this was so adorable too and very very sweet. I do wish they put more focus on the romance though.

Really there isn't much more I can say about this because it is so simple but I adore it to pieces. Only being an hour long it's well worth checking out as well. Purely funny and a very enjoyable watch.
