Sin City (2005)
Genre: Action/ Noir
Time: 2h 4mins
Directors: Frank Miller, Robert Rodriguez
Quick Summary: An exploration of the dark and miserable Basin City and three of its residents, all of whom are caught up in violent corruption.
Straight away this is a very unique and stylised film. Mainly Black and white with splashes of colour every now and then which always blends so well. This oozes a strong comic book feel and it works so well. It's almost as if they literally transferred a comic book to a film, and they couldn't have done it more perfectly.
The movie delights the viewer with terrific performances by a large group of A-listed actors who all turn out a super performance. I was invested in every single character as they brood around in melancholy, or rage-filled revenge. A lot of them, even though they were all serious, were pretty funny too with very dry humour that won't land with everyone. Though they are acr-types who don't branch out much, I was glad they didn't as it made everyone so much more over the top and interesting.
Story-wise, this was so entertaining. There are four different storylines going on, which play after each other and honestly, I think they all stand on the same platform as all of them were very good. Though what makes this film so entertaining is the action. It's over the top and gritty all done at break-neck speed that doesn't slow down for a second. There are a few twists in this which i won't spoil, but it's well worth the wait for each of them. They may be a little predictable, but I'm not mad about it.
I recommend this to anyone who loves violence, noir films, or even Quinten Tarantino. It's so entertaining, I'm sure you'll love it as much as I have.

"I'll stare the bastard in the face as he screams to God, and I'll laugh harder when he whimpers like a baby."
"He never screams. Even after the dog has its fill and his guts are hanging out, he never screams."
"When it comes to reassuring a traumatized 19-year-old, I'm about as expert as a palsy victim doing brain surgery with a pipe wrench."
