Death Proof (2007)

Genre: Action/ Thriller

Time: 2hours

Director: Quentin Tarantino

Quick Summary: Two separate sets of voluptuous women are stalked at different times by a scarred stuntman who uses his "death proof" cars to execute his murderous plans.

Feet. I mean. Feet. I mean. Feet.

Okay jokes aside, I did enjoy this. This is a really funny parody film. Everything is supposed to be a joke. Like the purposeful mistakes in continuity, the sloppy editing and the switch between colour and black and white, as well as the facade of severely deteriorating film stock.

To be honest, nothing really happens for a long portion of the film. You just watch women talk, Quentin himself have a few drinks with them and a lot of foot shots. The dialogue is pretty boring too, everyone just talks about nothing really or it's just endless silly banter between them.

The best parts of this film are slap bang in the middle and right at the end which I personally do think makes it worth watching. There are two really intense and cool car chase scenes. They keep you right on the edge of your seat, and when the gore is added it is so over the top. It bursts out in a loud explosion of metal and people. Shame over half the film is taken up with mindless dialogue.

Ending wise, without spoiling too much, is so satisfying. The best example of serves him right and good for her. It features Kurt Russell as Stuntman Mike, a deranged driver who likes to deliberately cause fatal crashes for fun. But when he picks on a car which just happens to include a couple of Hollywood stunt women amongst its passengers, the tables are turned and poor old Mike gets a taste of his own medicine.

I did like how creepy and well-performed Kurt Russel was.  His look was great and he came across as the perfect "sleazy" charmer. As well I did really like how violent this was, which created such a tonal whiplash. It is pretty brutal at times.

This is not to be taken seriously, it's a stupid fun film. (Not to add but probably to see how many foot shots he could get in.) If you are a fan of Quinten, then give this a watch, otherwise you will probably find this pretty slow.

6/10

"Well, Pam... Which way you going, left or right?

Pam: [enthusiastic] Right!

Stuntman Mike: Oh, that's too bad..."

"Moo, motherfucker, moo!"

"Pam: [talking about Mike's car] Are you sure it's safe?

Stuntman Mike: It's better than safe. It's death proof."
