Tropic Thunder (2008)
Genre: Comedy/ Action
Time: 2h
Director: Ben Stiller
Quick Summary: Through a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying.
I'm not particularly fond of comedies like this, but I actually found this funny.
Now a lot of the humour in this is incredibly dated and can be incredibly offensive if shown to the wrong type of person. For me though, the jokes were funny and delivered really well. Not all of them I found funny, but a good handful.
I liked how this is a parody of most average war films and it hit the nail right on the head. The action scenes themselves resembled real action movies and were nicely done. They added the action in with the hilarity, and all of it worked perfectly.
Robert Downey Jr and Tom Cruise were both hilarious to me. You won't recognize either of them, but they fit the roles fantastically. Some people find Downey's character to be inappropriate due to him playing a different race (through makeup), but it's there to poke fun not to be offensive. Downey Jr was making fun of method acting and taking that concept to a completely new level with this role. I didn't realize Tom Cruise was in this until the credits.
Honestly, there isn't much to say about this film, I found it funny and enjoyable. It wasn't something you have to think about and it's a good watch. Although I wouldn't recommend this to everyone since of type of humour is extreme.
6/10
"Kevin Sandusky: You guys all read the script, right?
Kirk Lazarus: I don't read the script, script reads me."
"Alpa Chino: And why am I in this movie? Maybe it's because I just knew I had to represent, because they had one good part in here for a black man and they gave it to Crocodile Dundee!
Kirk Lazarus: Pump your brakes, kid. That man's a national treasure.
Alpa Chino: I just wanted to thrown another shrimp on your barbie!
Kirk Lazarus: That shit ain't funny."
