oh, I got to tell you, it was perfect. Perfect. Everything, down to the last-minute details.
First of all the cast in this, is absolutely amazing. Everyone pulls their weight and brings all these intense and exciting characters to life. They all do a fantastic job with their acting. Though Uma Thurman is the star of this, she was a perfect choice for the lead and didn't disappoint. She is the centre of attention in every scene, even if she is in the background. Her presence in this too is so entertaining to watch, delivering her lines with the right amount of wit and snark, along with when she is absolutely beating the crap out of her former team she is just so fun to watch.
This is a fun film and quirky too! With how simple the plot is, so much has been done and crammed into one film; in a good way. So much happens, it never lets up right until the end when it calms down for such an intense ending. Absolutely packed with action too, and it's super cheesy. I'm really glad it managed to find a good balance between the two, as I feel like it wouldn't have been as good if it had gone either way. This is the perfect film to just switch off and admire. You don't need to think about it at all and really it is just a fun experience.
As silly as some of the editings is, like slow-motion scenes and a red overlay flashing over the screen, I think it just adds to the charm. The violence is definitely brutal and straightforward, as gallons of blood is spilt in this movie. But all of the violence is done in such an over-the-top and fake-looking way, that it becomes entertaining, rather than shocking or stomach-turning. The soundtrack is so iconic, it always manages to set the mood perfectly.
Visually, this is so cool to watch. Starting off in black and white, playing around with colours and silhouettes, quick pans that turn up into close-ups and amazingly framed shots. The sound effects make this all the better too! Swooshes, clangs, smacks, you name it. All the most cartoonish sounds you can think of, it's in here. Oh during the action scenes, the choreography for all the swordfight is so fascinating to watch. At no point did I remember it was all choreographed and timed, it honestly felt so realistic (Funnily enough).
