Screw you guys, this was fun.
Sure, this isn't a great Marvel film, but it's fun and full of action, it is mostly directed towards young teenagers so it isn't going to be fully serious.
Don't get me wrong either, I fully see the flaws in this, such as the underdevelopment of all the characters. Nobody really improved themselves, they just continued being themselves, which isn't fully bad I'll admit. For a trio that has just met each other, they bond incredibly fast and well. They work together really well, Brie bringing a more serious headstrong element, Teyonah more logical and brings a good amount of science into it, and Iman is just pure innocent fun and joy. I can see a lot of people finding her annoying, but I felt it was really refreshing to have such a happy personality on screen.
It's not a complete mess since the movie holds up enough to have an exciting experience, but who can argue against a franchise that is built upon being generic and the same. The pacing is pretty bizarre, jumping all over the place in the beginning, though I am aware that is probably because this went through a couple of reshoots. To me, the beginning was just all over the place and didn't really know where to start.
I actually liked the action scenes quite a lot, especially the ones when they were switching places constantly. The choreography and execution were brilliant as they held this up with a lot of energy. Soundtrack? Absolutely hits, the songs were a perfect mix to suit this film. Beastie Boys, a song from the Cats musical, and others that are just so funky.
Honestly, I found myself laughing at this so much, through body language and reactions, small comments, and some of the shenanigans that happen within this. One moment was a small musical moment which was delightfully silly and showed a completely different side to Captain Marvel. As well, anytime Nick Fury was on screen (which wasn't a ton sadly) he was straight-up hilarious with most of his lines.
One of the biggest problems with this is that the villain doesn't have much to them. I wish we had more of them before this film as they really don't get enough development or build-up. They are pretty strong and their motivations are almost justifiable though.
Go have fun with this, it's one of the shortest Marvel films and it absolutely flies by.
